A small studio
with a long memory.
the practice of making digital things for childhood, a state of attention more than an age, with the care a good book is given.
Childhood begins with a single voice. Stories are told and told again, near a fire or at a window. The voice repeats. The page is held. The screen is set down. Each generation builds new ways to hold the same kind of attention, layering systems on top of what came before, moving further from the room a child is actually in.
a small note, loud enough to remember.
Most of our work today is for children. but the discipline travels. We take on the occasional consultation outside of childhood when the fit is right. Some of what we make is ours, Apps ↗, some is written and drawn, Stories, some is small enough to disappear into a day, Tools, and some is made carefully with Partners.
how we work.
- Principle 01
Slow.
We choose what to make, then make it carefully.
- Principle 02
Considered.
The room the device is in matters as much as the screen.
- Principle 03
Durable.
Made to be used, loved, and set down again.
what we make.
what we don't.
- 01
Apps for children.
From a first idea to the App Store. Reading flow, audio fidelity, the moment before a child taps the next button.
- 02
Stories.
Interactive and linear. Written, drawn, voiced. Made to be read more than once.
- 03
Tools.
Quiet utilities for a child or for the adults around them. Small, learned, and set aside.
- 04
Partner work.
When a partner is making something for childhood, we sometimes help. Outside of that, we take on the occasional consultation when the fit is right.
what we are watching.
- 01 · Reading
Reading
Picture books that age into chapter books. Pages made for slow looking. The kind of book a child keeps and a parent ends up reading along with.
- 02 · Audio
Audio
Voice without the body of the teller. Recorded reading for children, and the small craft of asking a child to listen with the lights on.
- 03 · Quiet tools
Quiet tools
Small utilities for a child or for the adults around them. Used once a day, then set aside. The opposite of an app that asks for the next minute.
- 04 · Partner work
Partner work
Studios, schools, and small publishers making careful things for childhood. Partners who want a build, not a pitch.
tell us what you are working on. we read every note.
